The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Nasarawa State has thwarted an attempted attack on its state headquarters in Lafia by suspected bandits.
An undefined number of suspected shooters were claimed to have invaded the NSCDC offices in Lafia early Monday morning, shooting intermittently to scare the public.
Jerry Victor, the NSCDC’s State Public Relations Officer, reported that an undefined number of gunmen suspected of being bandits raided the corps’ headquarters early Monday.
According to NSCDC Public Relations Officer Jerry Victor, the gunmen who arrived in huge numbers with firearms and iron rods attempted to break down a portion of the command’s fence to gain admission into the institution, while others took various positions around the building.
“The operatives of the NSCDC swiftly responded by opening fire on the hoodlums, whose mission was to release some high-profile suspected criminals, including informants of kidnappers, in the custody of the command.”.
The NSCDC official stated that while no casualties were reported during the firefight between the attackers and command operatives, tranquilly had been restored.
Jerry Victor also revealed that the command had detained five notorious suspects for various crimes, including two informants of the kidnappers of the 82-year-old father of a former state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Daniel Umaru Lagi, who was recently killed by his abductors after paying a ransom.
It should be noted that there has been an increase in cases of kidnapping in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, prompting the Lafia Local Government to impose a curfew and restrict the movement of motorcycles and tricycles between eight o’clock in the evening and six o’clock in the morning.
