The Kano State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress has joined the nationwide strike in accordance with the union’s national body’s guidelines.

Findings by Chronicle NG in Kano showed primary and secondary schools, as well as university institutions, have joined the strike.

It was discovered that elementary and secondary school students who arrived at school as early as 7.30 a.m. were forced to return home since they did not meet teachers at the schools.

According to reports, the action has also disrupted operations in banks, hospitals, and other public venues around the state.

Similarly, the Audu Bako State Secretariat, which houses the majority of the ministries, was closed when the strike began, despite the fact that some staff who were unaware of the strike reported to work in the morning but had to return home later.

Students at Bayero University Kano who are now taking their first semester exams are also affected by the strike, since many of them had to return to their separate dorms after going to the examination rooms.

“Many students who were to sit for exams in the morning returned to their hostels disappointed because they could not see anybody in the examination halls,” a female student told Chronicle NG.

Meanwhile, the Kano State Ministry of Education has postponed today’s 2023 Secondary Schools Qualifying Examination till further notice.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Balarabe Kiru, the suspension is mandated by the NLC and TUC’s industrial actio

The statement, however, urged anyone affected, particularly children and parents or guardians, to cope with any difficulty caused by the suspension.
