    Osun election tribunal sacks Adeleke, declares Oyetola winner

    The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Osogbo on Friday sacked Governor Ademola Adeleke as governor of the state.

    The tribunal in a split decision of two to one declared that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, should withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to Adeleke and issue same to former governor Adegboyega Oyetola.

    The majority judgement which was read by the chairman of the tribunal, Justice Tertse Kume said Oyetola scored the majority lawful votes of 314,921 against Adeleke’s 290,266.

    The tribunal arrived at the new votes after it deducted the over-voting observed from what both candidates at the polls.

    The decision of the judges is being read at the time of this report.

    • Tribunal rejects Adeleke’s blurry certificates

    On July 17, the PDP candidate was declared winner of the Osun State governorship election.

    Adeleke won 17 of the 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the Osun State governorship election while Oyetola won in the remaining 13 LGAs.

    According to INEC, the PDP candidate polled 403,371 votes while the APC candidate polled 375,027 votes.

    The PDP candidate is expected to appeal the verdict of the tribunal at the appellate court.
