Grammy-nominated rapper Nicki Minaj has explained why she supports the Trump Accounts programme, saying the initiative could give young Americans access to investment opportunities she did not have while growing up.
The rapper said Trump Accounts could provide children with investment accounts that family and friends can contribute to, allowing beneficiaries to access the funds and learn about investing when they turn 18.
“Friends and family have been putting into this account since I was a baby and now I can invest from that account and I can learn about trading,” Minaj said.
“We didn’t have those opportunities when I was growing up. So to me it’s a blessing.”
Minaj also pledged hundreds of thousands of dollars of her own money to support Trump Accounts for children among her fan base.
In January 2026, she pledged between $150,000 and $300,000 to fund accounts for her fans. The pledge was made at the Trump Accounts Summit in Washington, DC, on January 28, 2026.
The rapper made the remarks after attending the summit with US President Donald Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to promote the programme, officially known as Trump Accounts and established under Section 530A of the US tax code.
Trump Accounts are designed to encourage early wealth building by providing investment accounts for eligible children. Under current IRS guidance, eligible children must generally be under 18 at the end of the year in which the account election is made and have a valid Social Security number.
“If I had access to something like this, my whole life would have been different,” Minaj said at the summit.
The Trinidad-born rapper, whose real name is Onika Tanya Maraj, has become an increasingly vocal supporter of Trump and his administration.
During a September 18 appearance on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle,” Minaj said she had “absolutely nothing” to say to people who had criticised her support for Trump. “I am honored to be able to have an opportunity to work with this administration and to work with President Trump,” she told host Laura Ingraham.
“He has inspired many people, not just me, and he’s fun. He’s not just smart and he’s just not the president, but he’s also just someone that I can relate to.”
Minaj has previously described herself as “probably the president’s No. 1 fan” and has appeared at several high-profile events involving Trump and Republican officials.
She has also worked with the Small Business Administration on “The Million-Dollar Pitch Competition,” a White House Freedom 250 initiative focused on American entrepreneurship.
Explaining her personal connection with Trump, Minaj said she found him easy to relate to.
“Someone that, every time I see him, or every time I see him speaking to other people, he’s just himself. He’s very, he’s very grounded. It’s easy to connect with him. It’s easy to feel like he heard you, he understands you.
