Obafemi Martins, the former Super Eagles striker, says Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, is the individual who can “change” Nigerian football.
Martins spoke on Monday in a chat with Mikel Obi on ‘The Obi One Podcast’.
The former Inter Milan forward was reacting to the ongoing crisis rocking the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), which has seen a series of resignations and reshuffles in recent days.
Martins said Nigerian football administration had been a problem since he was a player, and he volunteered Seyi as the best man to clean up the system.
The 41-year-old said the president’s son is “young and he understands what Nigerian people want” and will do the job.
“I mean, it’s always been like that, you know, so we just need someone that, you know, that can help,” Martins said.
“You know, someone, you know, a young person that understands the game, that understands the system, that can help us. And I, and I think Seyi Tinubu can do that too.
“You know, he understands, he’s young, and he understands what Nigerian people want. You know, I think he can change that.”
Seyi Tinubu has not publicly declared interest in vying for a place in the NFF.
Last week, Ibrahim Gusau resigned as NFF president, while Muhammad Sanusi also stepped down as the federation’s general secretary. Their resignations were followed by a presidential order for a “comprehensive reform” of Nigerian football to “overcome repeated failures to qualify for major regional, continental and world tournaments”.
