Brazil forward Vinicius Jr. has agreed to a new six-year contract with Real Madrid that will keep him at the Bernabéu until 2032.
The 26-year-old winger had entered the final 12 months of his contract and attracted interest from Arsenal in recent weeks.
However, Real Madrid disclosed on Thursday the two parties have agreed to extend his deal to 30 June 2032.
Vinicius posted on Instagram: “Eight years at the Bernabeu are too short… Six more years, and then forever.”
“Vinicius Jr has become one of the most important players in one of the most successful periods in our history,” said the club in a statement.
Negotiations for a deal stalled until Real presented a new offer on Wednesday, with Vinicius reportedly pleased with the updated conditions.
In 2018, he moved to Real from the Brazilian club Flamengo and extended his contract three years prior.
Real and his agents have been negotiating a new contract for the last 18 months, but he has now prolonged his tenure at what he once described as the club of his “dreams.”
He came back to the club on Monday for his initial pre-season training and medical evaluation after his World Cup journey with Brazil.
Vinicius has netted 128 times in 375 matches for Real in all competitions, and he has 13 goals in 54 appearances for Brazil.
He has contributed to Real securing two Champions League trophies, three La Liga titles, and one Copa del Rey during his tenure at the club.
Arsenal would have hastened their interest in the Brazilian if he had declined Real’s offer, but now the Premier League champions need to seek alternatives as they aim for a left-sided forward.
Vincius signed a contract extension coinciding with Real’s announcement of the acquisition of Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig for a fee reaching £120m (140m euros).
Diomande is Real’s sixth summer acquisition under the new coach Jose Mourinho, joining Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella, and Carlos Espi.
