FC Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has turned down repeated invitations to work as a television pundit for the next World Cup, stating that he would rather recover and spend time with his family.

Several English broadcasters have expressed interest in the Belgian coach ahead of the competition, which will be hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

However, Kompany made it obvious that he had no intention of taking on the responsibility.

“No chance, no chance,” he said, cutting in before a question referencing the report was even completed.

“What am I supposed to do, work as a TV pundit on holiday? I won’t have a family left in Munich next year,” said the coach while he appeared in a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s cup semi-final against Bayer Leverkusen.

He reiterated the viewpoint in a lighter tone, saying, “Why should I work as a TV pundit while on vacation?” Then I won’t have a family in Munich next year,” he said during the news conference, to laughs.

According to writers Mike & Keegan, Kompany’s insight into English striker Harry Kane, whom he oversees at Bayern, sparked much of the English media’s curiosity. Despite past punditry gigs with big networks, the veteran defender has chosen not to combine work and a well-deserved holiday following a tough season.

Fresh from winning their 35th Bundesliga title, Bayern now turn their attention to the DFB-Pokal, where they meet Bayer Leverkusen in a critical semi-final. Victory would bring the German powerhouse to their first final since 2020.

Kompany, on the other hand, will be without key players Serge Gnabry, Lennart Karl, and Tom Bischof, who are all out due to injuries.

The focus is now on Jamal Musiala, who is working his way back to peak form after a lengthy layoff. Kompany is optimistic about the midfielder’s improvement, saying he is “in good form” and “very close to his best level.”

Looking ahead, Bayern are targeting a heavyweight UEFA Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain on April 28 and May 6. With Gnabry out, Musiala is anticipated to play a key part again, having already made an impression in the quarter-final against Real Madrid.

In that match, the teenage sensation altered the game as a replacement, forcing a caution from Eduardo Camavinga with a stunning run before putting up a late equalizer that helped Bayern advance.
