Nigerians have expressed their displeasure after it was revealed that 590 delegates accompanied President Bola Tinubu to the ongoing United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP28 summit in Dubai, UAE.

This comes on the heels of economic hardship and high inflationary rates which the country is currently experiencing.

A list circulating on social media by Carbon Brief revealed that Nigeria registered 1,411 delegates for COP28, the largest in Africa and the third largest globally behind China and Brazil.

According to multiple reports, the Nigerian government reportedly sponsored 590 of the 1,411 delegates.

Many citizens have criticised the government’s latest spending with the economy dwindling amidst galloping inflation, currency decline and corruption.

Among the government-sponsored delegates are the sons of President Tinubu, Oluwaseyi Afolabi Tinubu and Olayinka Hakeem Tinubu, who were both registered as ‘Management Staff’.

Reacting to the humungous list on X, former Twitter, Osinachi wrote, “Rascal and irresponsible people. It’s a long ride for Nigerians.”

Johnson Swiss echoed the same sentiments. “This administration is insane right now and they need to be called to order. How can they pack everyone to Dubai for COP28 about the climate change summit? Who remains in Nigeria to work, nonsense and hypocrite.”

George Owino took on leaders on the continent. “African leaders are all greedy have you seen the 600+ Kenyan entourage.”
