US President Donald Trump has released CCTV footage and photographs of the suspect involved in the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C.
The video, released shortly before the president addressed the media, apparently shows the suspect rushing inside the Washington Hilton ballroom, avoiding security metal detectors as armed agents move to intercept him.
Trump also released photographs of what appeared to be a shirtless guy lying face down in the foyer with his hands secured behind his back, believed to be the alleged gunman.
Trump referred to the man as a “would-be assassin,” asserting that he was heavily armed and had breached a crucial security post before his arrest.
According to the BBC, the president added that the man “charged past a security checkpoint” with multiple weapons.
He reported that a law enforcement officer sustained a gunshot wound during the incident, but he survived due to his bulletproof vest.
The incident took place Saturday night at the high-profile White House Correspondents’ Dinner, causing panic and driving top government officials, journalists, and guests to flee.
Authorities have since confirmed that the suspect is in custody, and investigations into the motive and circumstances surrounding the breach are still ongoing.
