President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu arrived in Nigeria on Friday following a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom.

Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, provided video footage on X that recorded the moment the presidential aircraft landed, with senior government officials, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, on hand to greet the presidential couple.

“A president arrives home. Excitement as President Tinubu returns to Nigeria after a resoundingly successful state visit to the UK,” Dare wrote.

The visit, which took place from March 18 to 19, 2026, was the first formal state visit by a Nigerian leader to the United Kingdom in 37 years. The previous one had occurred in 1989.

Tinubu and the First Lady left Abuja and arrived at London Stansted Airport on Tuesday.

The next day, they were welcomed ceremonially at Windsor Castle by King Charles III and Queen Camilla, who led an honor guard and carriage procession.

On Wednesday, the Nigerian delegation led by the president attended a state supper hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

Tinubu spoke at the event on the help and protection he experienced in the United Kingdom under Nigeria’s military dictatorship, reaffirming the two countries’ long-standing relationship.

Speaking, King Charles commended the UK-Nigeria relationship as a “partnership of equals,” emphasizing the two countries’ close cultural, commercial, and people-to-people links.

Tinubu met with United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Thursday for a high-level bilateral meeting aimed at improving Nigeria-Britain cooperation.

Among the memoranda of understanding inked was a £746 million financing agreement between UK Export Finance, the Nigerian Ports Authority, and the Federal Ministry of Finance.

In addition, a new agreement was reached with the United Kingdom to assist the return of failed Nigerian asylum applicants, visa overstayers, and convicted offenders, with the goal of enhancing migration control and bilateral collaboration.
