President Bola Tinubu has ordered a complete investigation into the gruesome murder of a housewife, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children in Kano State.
In a statement made on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President condemned the attack, calling it cruel, and expressed condolences to the dead family.
“The President condemned the action as barbaric and condoled with the bereaved family over the tragedy,” the statement said.
Tinubu also applauded the police for the swift arrest of the principal suspects and directed security agencies to ensure diligent prosecution.
“The President commended the police for the swift arrest of the principal suspects and ordered the investigation and diligent prosecution of the suspects,” the statement added.
Tinubu assured Nigerians of the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that such acts of violence would not be tolerated.
Chronicle NG reports that seven persons, including a 35-year-old woman and her six children, were killed on Saturday in a violent attack at Dorayi Chiranci Quarters in Kano.
The victims, Fatima Abubakar and her children, were attacked at their home by suspected hoodlums who allegedly broke into the house and inflicted fatal injuries using deadly weapons.
Confirming the incident, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, stated that the command received a distress call at 12:10 p.m. on January 17 reporting the attack on Haruna Bashir’s family.
He stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, promptly dispatched a team of officers to the scene, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Mani.
According to police, the victims were taken to Kano’s Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, where medical experts verified their deaths.
As investigations into the tragedy continued on Sunday, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the Kano State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, announced that three main suspects have been arrested in connection with the deaths of a housewife and six children.
The arrests were made following intelligence-led and coordinated actions that took place throughout the night of January 17 and the early hours of Sunday, January 18, 2026.
Kiyawa stated that the arrests were made on the orders of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
“The Kano State Police Command, leveraging intelligence-led policing, has successfully arrested three principal suspects behind the gruesome murder of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters,” Kiyawa said.
