The governor of Kaduna State Uba Sani, has said that President Bola Tinubu has done more for Northern Nigeria than any prior leader, citing infrastructure, agriculture, and healthcare initiatives as examples of the administration’s dedication to the region.
The governor also refuted claims that the North would not back Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, claiming that the president will receive more votes in the region than he did in the 2023 election.
Sani mentioned this during an interview with ARISE Television on Tuesday.
“Let me be very frank with you. And when I talk, I talk on the basis of data and statistics. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, today, I can tell you, has done more than any leader for northern Nigeria.
“I can tell you categorically, no president has done for the North in terms of development as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done in the last three years. And I’m speaking on the basis of data and statistics,” he said.
Sani also condemned suggestions that Tinubu’s popularity had waned in the North.
“A lot of people have come here and told you the North will not vote for Asiwaju. That is a figment of their imagination,” he said.
“I can tell you categorically, I’m the Governor of Kaduna State, and I can tell you, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will get more votes in 2027 than what he got.”
The governor ascribed his optimism to what he characterized as groundbreaking projects carried out by the federal government in Kaduna and other regions of the North.
He referenced the Abuja-Kaduna road project, claiming work that had been stalled for years was about to be completed under Tinubu’s leadership.
He said, “As we are speaking, and you should jot it down, this project will be commissioned, by God’s grace, in November this year, because over N600 billion has already been paid to the contractor.
“I’m following the project personally… President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has already paid the contractors over N600 billion from about N750 billion of the project to complete the road by November.”
Sani also mentioned the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road, which he said had been abandoned for more than two decades before funding was approved by the current administration.
“Only last three weeks, the President has paid part of the N178 billion to construct the road from Kaduna to Birnin Gwari, which was abandoned for over 25 years. And you tell me the people will not be happy?” he said.
Sani further praised the federal government’s support for agriculture, describing it as critical to Kaduna’s economy.
“Mr. President has supported subnationals, including Kaduna State Government, in agriculture. Because for me, agriculture is the mainstay of our economy,” he said.
“I can tell you today, that is why we are the leading state in SAPZ (Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones) because of the intervention from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu… supporting us with a lot of fertilizer to give to the lower cadre of our farmers.”
He also cited the development of a Federal University of Science and Technology in southern Kaduna, the conversion of one of the state’s hospitals into a Federal Medical Center, and the approval of a light rail project for Kaduna among the administration’s achievements.
“Only last month, the Federal Executive Council also approved N1 trillion, which I can tell you the project is about to start because feasibility studies have been done and money has been released for the Kaduna Light Rail. It’s N1 trillion. Kaduna N1 trillion, Kano N1 trillion,” Sani said.
The governor insisted that the initiatives highlighted the federal government’s commitment to improving livelihoods and infrastructure in northern Nigeria.
