Oyibo Nwani, a Peoples Democratic Party chieftain and agent in the governorship and House of Assembly elections in Ebonyi State, was shot dead on Saturday by thugs who stormed his polling unit in the state’s Onicha Local Government Area.
Chief Ifeanyi Odii, the PDP governorship candidate, is from Onicha LGA.
According to reports, the thugs allegedly came to steal ballot boxes while youths and other voters fought back frantically.
During the altercation, the chieftain, who was clutching a ballot box so tightly, was shot in the head.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the killing.
