The Lamidi Apapa-led group in the Labour Party (LP) has congratulated President Bola Tinubu on his Supreme Court win, saying the confirmation of the election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the February 25, 2023, presidential election is well-deserved.

The Apapa-led faction attacked LP presidential candidate Peter Obi and his legal team for “presenting the worst election petition ever presented in Nigeria’s history.”

Apapa’s spokesperson, Abayomi Arabambi, said in a statement on Saturday that “it should be on record that Peter Obi’s frivolous and bland petition was dismissed in less than 120 seconds” by the Supreme Court‘s judges last Thursday.

Obi and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Atiku Abubakar have appealed Tinubu’s election victory at the Supreme Court.

Not satisfied with the decision of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) earlier in September, Atiku and Obi petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn Tinubu’s election on the grounds of double nomination, alleged certificate forgery, non-transmission of results electronically, and 25% votes cast in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), among other things.

However, on Thursday, an apex court panel led by Justice John Okoro dismissed all of Atiku and Obi’s pleas for lack of merit. Following that, the panel validated Tinubu’s election victory.

The Apapa-led faction stated in a statement on Saturday, “The victory of President Bola Tinubu is well-deserved. It is a testimony of hard work, resilience, dedication, and love for the nation.”

The group also praised Atiku, saying he “gave his best interest this election. The Former Vice President remains a veteran and not a failure; he gave it all but destiny at times speaks.”

The group, however, mocked Obi for bringing a “meaningless petition” that was “dismissed under 120 seconds (2 minutes) by the justices of the Supreme Court.”
