There was pandemonium at the Alake Sports Complex in Ijeja, Abeokuta, one of the locations for the 2024 National Sports Festival, after a gas explosion.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred when a petrol truck fuelling the complex’s generating set caught fire, causing panic among athletes and spectators.
Emergency responders were swiftly mobilised to the ground, and the situation has been put under control.
At the time of filing this report was, events at the sport complex had resumed, including handball, squash, and badminton.
