The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State has confirmed Gov Ahmed Aliyu as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general election.
The endorsement follows a consensus agreement reached by party members from the state’s 244 wards during the APC governorship affirmation exercise in Sokoto on Thursday.
Delegates, party executives, and stakeholders from the 23 local government districts took part in the exercise, which concluded with Aliyu emerging unchallenged.
Mukhtar Birniwa, Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee, stated that the selection of the consensus option reflected the party members’ collective decision and assured a seamless and peaceful process.
According to him, the overwhelming support from all wards reflected public trust in the governor’s leadership and administration.
“All the 244 wards have unanimously spoken in support of Governor Ahmed Aliyu. The process has been peaceful because party members have already reached a common decision,” Birniwa said.
He then proclaimed Aliyu to be the APC’s officially confirmed governorship candidate for Sokoto State in the 2027 election.
Following the affirmation, Aliyu thanked party members and state people for their confidence and support in him.
The governor praised the endorsement as a great vote of confidence in his government, promising to step up efforts to deliver more developmental projects and improve citizens’ welfare.
He said, “The renewed mandate from the party would further encourage my administration to consolidate on achievements recorded so far and sustain inclusive governance across the state.”
