There were shooting and firing of teargas on Monday at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex as some lawmakers began an impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
About 23 lawmakers, including Speaker Martin Amaewhule, who presided over the meeting, agreed to start the procedure.
The lawmakers also suspended the House leader, Edison Ehie, and some of his colleagues who were thought to be loyal to the governor.
Recall that on Sunday night, there was an explosion at the Rivers State House of assembly complex as the chamber was razed.
Lawmakers were observed driving out of the Assembly with strong security escorts shortly after the sitting, at 8:15 a.m.
Following the shooting and tear gas, people rushed helter-skelter as police chased them, including workers whose workplaces were in the area.
