Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has impounded a 2019 Lamborghini Urus belonging to dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, following investigations allegedly linking the luxury vehicle to the criminal activities of convicted fraudster Nana Kwabena Amuah.

Amuah, a Ghanaian national currently serving an 86-month prison sentence in the United States, was convicted in 2023 for leading a scheme that defrauded nearly 70 organizations by impersonating vendors.

Prosecutors revealed that stolen funds were funneled into shell companies, one of which was used to purchase the bright yellow Lamborghini.

EOCO said it acted on a request from the US government as part of efforts to recover $4.7 million in restitution for Amuah’s victims.

Shatta Wale, born Charles Nii Armah, denied any ties to the convicted fraudster in a Facebook live session, arguing that he was a “third-party owner” of the vehicle.

He claimed to have bought the car for $150,000 and submitted relevant documents to the authorities as “proof”.

“I don’t know who shipped it to the country,” the musician said.

Wale also criticised EOCO’s handling of the seizure, particularly its “armed raid on my residence”. In another post, the singer accused Raymond Archer, EOCO’s executive director, of misconduct.

“Raymond Archer EOCO boss, Ibe you go make NDC go out of power in the next four years. Bringing guns to my house was uncalled for,” he wrote.

“EOCO boss, the president of Ghana did not put you in that office to come and humiliate the citizens of this country. Remember, God no sleep,” he added in a subsequent post.

Shatta Wale is one of Ghana’s best-known music stars.
