Ex-West Brom midfielder Quevin Castro has passed away at 25 after collapsing on the field during a game in Portugal.
Castro collapsed on the field in the first half of the friendly match between third-tier Real Sport Clube and first-division Estrela de Amadora at the Estadio das Seixas in Lisbon on Saturday.
The Lisbon Football Association (AFL) announced that Castro “died this morning during the pre-season exhibition match.”
Real Sport Clube described the midfielder as a “cherished part of our sports family.”
“Quevin Castro was much more than just a player; he was an integral part of our family, leaving an indelible mark on all those who knew him.”
Castro signed with West Brom in 2021 and played his first match for the team versus Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.

His second match for the club occurred against Swansea later in that season, prior to joining Burton Albion on loan.
West Brom expressed that they were “devastated” over the announcement of Castro’s passing and will honor the midfielder with a round of applause in the 25th minute of their Championship match against Burnley on Sunday, in addition to donning black armbands.
The ex-Sporting Clube academy graduate played for various teams in England, such as Cambridge City, York City, and Notts County, before going back to Portugal last summer.
