Sevilla moved a step closer to securing their LaLiga status for next season after edging Las Palmas 1-0 at home, ending an eight-game winless streak.

The vital three points put them seven clear of the relegation zone, with only three games left for 18th-placed Leganes.

The match started with promise for the visitors as Adnan Januzaj made an early run but failed to test goalkeeper Orjan Nyland with a weak finish. Sevilla responded through Albert Sambi Lokonga, who had two chances — one narrowly over the bar and another saved by Dinko Horkas.

Jose Campana tried to break the deadlock for Las Palmas from distance, but his effort was comfortably dealt with by Nyland. The first half ended goalless despite both sides having opportunities.

Sevilla found the breakthrough early in the second half. Lucien Agoume flicked on a set-piece into the path of Alvaro Garcia Pascual, who timed his run perfectly and headed into the bottom corner — his first goal for the club.

Las Palmas struggled to respond. Suso came close to doubling Sevilla’s lead with a curling free-kick, which was punched clear by Horkas.

The visitors thought they had equalized late on through Oli McBurnie, but the goal was ruled out for a foul on Nyland by Sergi Cardona.

The loss marks Las Palmas’ fourth straight defeat and leaves them 19th in the table, three points adrift of safety with two games remaining. Sevilla, now up to 14th, are all but safe with this crucial win.
