Senator Okey Ezea, who represented Enugu North Senatorial District and was elected on the Labour Party platform, died in the United Kingdom while receiving medical treatment.

He was the only LP member from Enugu State in the 10th National Assembly.

This is the second serving senator from the South-East to pass away in two years, following Senator Ifea.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who represents Abia North, said he got the news “with profound shock and deep sorrow,” characterizing Ezea as “my dear brother and colleague.”

Kalu added, “His death is a painful blow that has left me personally devastated. Senator Ezea was more than a fellow legislator. He was a friend with whom I shared a close and sincere bond. Our friendship was built on mutual respect, brotherhood, and genuine affection.”

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who represents Abia North, said he got the news “with profound shock and deep sorrow,” characterizing Ezea as “my dear brother and colleague.”

Kalu also expressed his condolences to Governor Peter Mbah, the Nsukka community, and the deceased’s family, asking that God would give them the strength to bear the loss.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central, who was also in mourning, described Ezea as a sweet and wise colleague whose support helped her get through difficult times.

“You were a good man! Wise and gentle. Your prayers kept me going through my darkest moments, and I will miss you in chambers,” she wrote.

Natasha added, “Enugu North Senatorial District, Kogi Central, honors your senator and mourns with you. Rest in peace, Distinguished Senator Okey Ezea.”

The Senate is anticipated to formally address his death in plenary, with a minute of silence held in his honor, as is traditional in legislative tradition.
