Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, national chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), says supporters of President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) would be making a mistake by underestimating northern voters ahead of the 2027 election.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Baba-Ahmed asked what campaign leaders seeking Tinubu’s re-election would tell residents of Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto, Katsina, Borno, Yobe, Kwara, Kaduna, Plateau, Kogi and Nasarawa states.
He said the ruling party’s campaign would involve distributing money on an unprecedented scale in an attempt to influence voters.
“We know they will share money that has never been seen distributed in politics. Their problem is undermining the northerners,” he said.
“They are the ones that can sell us, let us forget the humiliation and disgrace that was done in Tinubu’s regime.”
He added that northern voters would demonstrate that their voices and dignity matter.
Baba-Ahmed noted that financial inducements would not necessarily erase grievances against the government.
“We will show them that we, too, are citizens whose voices and dignity matter,” he said.
He cautioned against any attempt to manipulate or overturn the election results, saying the outcome must reflect voters’ choices.
“If we reject the APC and Tinubu, nobody should attempt to manipulate or overturn the outcome of the election,” he warned.
Baba-Ahmed said supporters of the president and the ruling party should prepare for the political contest ahead.
“As for those carrying the banner of Tinubu and the APC, you are welcome. Here we are, and here you are. Let the contest begin,” he noted.
“May Allah deliver us from oppressors.”
On Wednesday, Tinubu inaugurated the APC presidential campaign council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The president announced that he would not attend every campaign rally, saying governance had always been a priority for him.
He included Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT); Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun State; and Chukwuma Soludo, governor of Anambra State, in the campaign council.
