Sen. Shehu Sani has decried the rising cases of bullying in secondary schools in the country.

Sani noted that the prevalence of bullying of students by their colleagues is an abnormal and alien culture that should be jettisoned.

In a statement on his X page on Wednesday, the former representative of Kaduna Central in the Senate berated schools for concealing “the bad behaviours of some of their students because of the status of their parents and the financial gains from the tuition.”

His remarks come on the heels of the bullying of Namtira, a student at Lead British International School, LBIS, Abuja.

Chronicle NG reports that Nambira, an SS2 student at LBIS, was bullied by Maryam Hassan, her colleague.

In viral videos, Maryam was seen slapping Namtira repeatedly for undisclosed reasons.

Reacting to the report by Chronicle NG, Sani stated that “the bullying of students in schools by their fellow students is a serious problem that school authorities must act to address.”

He adds, “Parents sent their children for education and moral training, not slavery. Normal students must be protected from spoiled ones.

“Most private schools tolerate or conceal the bad behaviours of some of their students because of the status of their parents and the financial gains from the tuition.

“Schools with no moral codes are not schools. We are Africans, not Americans.”
