The House of Representatives has invited Betta Edu, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, to inform the green chamber on the progress of the Federal Government’s conditional cash transfer scheme to 15 million families.
On Tuesday, the House raised concern over the program’s handling in a motion of urgent public interest.
The House questioned the program’s lack of openness, which has resulted in dishonest practises.
Minister Betta Edu will provide specifics on data collection and sharing.
President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer for 15 million families in mid-October.
On October 1, 2023, the President launched the cash distribution initiative, which he stated would target disadvantaged residents, in his first Independence Day broadcast to Nigerians.
According to the humanitarian affairs minister, the 15 million families represent 62 million Nigerians.
She had stated that N25,000 would be sent to the recipients on a monthly basis for three months, totaling N75,000 for each beneficiary.
