First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has urged Nigerians to go into Akara business, roasting of corn, and the selling of local snack kulikuli to curb unemployment.
Mrs. Tinubu made the appeal while speaking to the press after an event where she gave business grants to well-meaning Nigerians.
The First Lady, who noted that the grant and Akara business idea are in tandem with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, mentioned that it doesn’t cost much to start these businesses.
“We try to give hope, and to start an akara business doesn’t take a lot of money,” she said.
“To start roasting corn, somebody even said about grinding; you see, they’re saying kulikuli doesn’t even take much,” she added.
Mrs. Tinubu pointed out that the beneficiaries received grants and not loans to be paid back.
“We did not give them a loan; we gave them grants. So we’ve encouraged Nigerians as best as we could.
“What is within our hands, I’ve given and I will keep giving, and those are the things we’ve done.”
She mentioned that in consonance with the Tinubu-led Renewed Hope Agenda, she has made medical donations across the country.
“I remember giving for TB when I heard there were so many TB cases; I gave N2 billion. To breast cancer, I gave a billion; to food malnutrition, I gave half a million. So those are the things we’ve been doing and making sure that whatever this government is trying to do, it will see the light of day.
“So in agriculture we’ve done it, in social investment we have, and in education we’ve given a little bit of scholarships and ICT training.”
She noted that the APC-led federal government is still desirous of doing more in bringing succor to the people.
“We are still open, still wanting to do more. The narrative has really changed. Has changed to challenge the average man. Whereas the average man is supposed to have hope.
“So I like the idea that Mr. President said this is the Renewed Hope Agenda. We have to renew our hope,” she added.
