Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) strengthened their grip on the Ligue 1 title with a commanding 3-1 victory over rivals Olympique de Marseille in Le Classique, extending their lead at the top to 19 points.

The result also marked PSG’s fifth consecutive triumph in the iconic fixture.

Despite Marseille’s determined start, PSG struck first in the 17th minute when Ousmane Dembélé, in scintillating form, latched onto a Fabian Ruiz pass, outmaneuvered goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli, and fired home.

The goal added to Dembélé’s remarkable tally of 25 goals in his last 20 appearances across all competitions.

Marseille pressed for an equalizer, creating several chances, but the host’s defense, led by Gianluigi Donnarumma, held firm. Their resistance was rewarded just before halftime when Fabian Ruiz set up Nuno Mendes to slot in the host’s second goal.

Marseille reignited hopes in the 52nd minute as Adrien Rabiot unselfishly set up Amine Gouiri for a tap-in. However, the league defending champions restored their two-goal cushion in the 76th minute when Pol Lirola inadvertently turned Achraf Hakimi’s cross into his own net.

The hosts struggled to mount a comeback, with Quentin Merlin narrowly missing a late effort.

PSG’s seventh straight Ligue 1 win solidifies their dominance, while Marseille’s third defeat in four matches further dents their season.
