Operatives of the FCT Police Command, in the early hours of Sunday morning, swiftly responded to a distress call following the kidnapping of two residents by suspected bandits. During the exchange of gunfire, the hoodlums abandoned the victims and fled into the bush.
Chronicle NG earlier reported that Residents of the Mpape community had reported that gunmen, believed to be seven in number, invaded the area between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. in the wee hours and forcefully took away the two residents.
“They were shooting sporadically, causing residents to wake up and start calling the police”.
“After some time, some of us came out to discover they had left with two residents towards a destination, and the police went after them”.
Spokesperson of the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, while confirming the incident, disclosed that police tracked the hoodlums to a corner, where a heated exchange ensued.
“The victims have been rescued by the police and will soon be reunited with their loved ones”, she said.
“There was a swift response from our men from Mpape and the command’s tactical team.
“They mounted pressure on the criminals, which forced them to leave behind the victims.
Supol Adah added that “efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspects. We are on the trail of the suspects”.
