Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested Abiodun Salami and Destiny Adeola on suspicion of involvement in cult-related crimes in the Ijoko area of Sango-Ota, within the Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Omolola Odutola, disclosed the arrest via WhatsApp on Monday, stating that the two individuals were apprehended on August 8, 2024.

Sango-Ota, Ijoko, and other areas within the local government have recently become hotspots for numerous notorious cult clashes, attacks, and killings.

According to reports, in January, two unidentified individuals were brutally killed during a suspected cult clash in Ota town.

Speaking on the arrest of Adeola and Salami, Odutola stated that the suspects, along with other members of the Eiye Confraternity, had gathered at a location in Ijoko when residents alerted the police.

Following the tip-off, oooiiccur correspondent learnt that the Anti-Robbery Squad was quickly summoned to the spot, culminating in the arrest of Salami and Adeola while others fled.

Odutola reported that objects found at the scene included a toy silver revolver, locally manufactured amulets, and suspected Indian marijuana.

“When they spotted the squad, they scattered in different directions. Salami and Adeola were apprehended. During questioning, Adeola admitted to being a member of the Eye Confraternity.

“He (Adeola) revealed that he was initiated into the group in 2022 at Atan-Otan. We are intensifying efforts to apprehend the other members who are still at large,” Odutola stated.

In May 2024, another cult clash in the Ijoko area resulted in the death and beheading of Seun, a suspected member of the cult.

The victim, who worked as a fuel attendant at a filling station in Alaroro, Ijoko, was killed in what was thought to be retaliation.
