The Lagos State Police Command has declared Idara Bassey, a doctor, sought in connection with the death of a 36-year-old woman named Abiola, who died undergoing a buttocks enlargement treatment at a clinic in the state’s Lekki Phase 1 region.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police command spokesperson, verified this to our correspondent on Thursday.

Chronicle NG reported on Wednesday that the deceased had visited the clinic for a buttocks enlargement procedure, which took a fatal turn after a nurse (name withheld), allegedly acting on Bassey’s orders, administered an injection.

Commonly known as BBL, an acronym for Brazilian Butt Lift, the procedure is a form of cosmetic surgery that involves extracting fat from other areas of the body and injecting it into the buttocks to create a fuller, rounder appearance.

Prior to the occurrence, medical authorities warned of the procedure’s potential adverse consequences. However, multiple videos have emerged online of women, primarily from Lagos, claiming to have undergone the surgery successfully.

Chronicle NG gathered that the deceased had reportedly departed from her home in the Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, in the Ibeju Lekki area of the state, instructing her driver to take her to the clinic for the procedure on Monday.

After the nurse allegedly delivered the injection per the doctor’s directions, the driver who had taken the lady to the clinic notified the police that she (Abiola) had lost consciousness and was gasping for air.

While the police informed our correspondent that the nurse who gave the injection had been caught, Hundeyin disclosed that the clinic’s owner was still on the run.

“The clinic’s owner is on the run,” he stated.

When questioned if the fleeing doctor had been proclaimed wanted by the police, Hundeyin stated that the doctor remained a “suspect” in the case.

“She’s on the run. Of course, she’s a suspect,” Hundeyin added.
