    Police arrest man for killing brother over foodstuff in Anambra

    The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man, Kosisochukwu Okafor, for stabbing his brother to death, Emmanuel Okafor.

    The sad incident occurred on Friday at Adegbe Village, Abagana, in the Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

    According to eyewitnesses, a heated altercation over the use of foodstuffs in their home escalated into a physical altercation.

    During the fight, Kosisochukwu reportedly used a stick to pierce his brother’s chest, leading to his death.

    “It was during a fight after a heated argument that the junior brother used a stick to pierce his chest, and he fell.

    “The victim was rushed to the hospital and was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty,” said the eyewitness.

    The murder has been confirmed by the spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.

    Ikenga said police operatives attached to the Abagana Police Divisional Headquarters and vigilante operatives in Abagana arrested the suspect on Friday by 7pm.

    He stated that the “police operatives attached to the Abagana Police Divisional Headquarters and vigilante operatives in Abagana on February 7, 2025, by 7 pm, arrested one Anthony Kosisochukwu Okafor, aged 37 years, of Adegbe Village, Abagana, Njikoka LGA, over the death of his elder brother, Mr. Emmanuel Okafor, aged 45 years.

    “The suspect confessed to having engaged the victim in a fight over a heated argument about using foodstuffs in the house.

    “Kosisochukwu was said to have used a stick to pierce the deceased’s chest. The victim was rushed to the hospital and was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

    He mentioned that the case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, and will be charged to court on the conclusion of the investigation.

    “This incident is quite disturbing and highlights the importance of addressing domestic violence and conflicts amongst family members. It also underscores the need to manage conflicts and emotions healthily and constructively to avoid irreparable consequences.
