The Plateau State Government has declared an immediate dusk-to-dawn curfew in Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, and Mangu Local Government Areas to maintain public order and curb emerging security threats in the region.
This comes after terrorists carried out separate attacks on towns in the Jos South, Mangu, and Riyom Local Government Areas, killing 13 people on Sunday night.
Nine passengers were killed when suspected terrorists opened fire on their vehicle in the Dungus hamlet of Jos South Local Government Area on their way to Jos.
The remaining four victims were slain in separate incidents in Mangu and Riyom local government regions.
Rwang Tengwong, a spokesman for the Berom Youth Molders, confirmed the Dungus attack to press in Jos on Monday, saying it occurred about 9.40 p.m.
He stated that the victims were passengers travelling to Jos when the attackers opened fire on their vehicle.
He said, “Among those killed was a member of Operation Rainbow. It is a very sad development, and we lament the loss of lives.”
Tengwong also mentioned that some passengers sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to hospitals, where some later died.
“It was a vehicle carrying passengers to Jos. The attackers opened fire on them, and some of the victims were killed,” he said.
A resident of the community, Musa Dauda, also confirmed the terrorist attack, saying some of the injured passengers died while receiving treatment.
“Some of the passengers who were injured were taken to the hospital, but some of them died while receiving treatment. Others are still in the hospital receiving treatment,” Dauda said.
Meanwhile, in Mangu Local Government Area, suspected terrorists reportedly assaulted Vodni in Pushit District at night, murdering two people.
Four more people were shot during the attack and were being treated at a hospital in Mangu town.
In Riyom Local Government Area, two people were reportedly slain in a separate attack near Tahoos about the same time.
In a bid to restore normalcy and prevent further breakdown of law and order in the localities, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Communication, Plateau State, in a statement on Monday, announced the imposition of curfew in the areas.
The statement partly reads, “Effective today, Monday, September 21, 2026, the restriction of movement is between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM until further notice.
“”The ‘Time is Now’ Administration led by His Excellency Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, Esq., has taken the measure to allow law enforcement agencies to stabilize the area, protect lives, and prevent any breakdown of law and order within local communities.
”Therefore, all residents of affected Local Government Areas are expected to fully comply with the government’s directive for their own safety. Citizens are advised to plan their daily commercial, agricultural, and personal activities strictly around the restriction hours to avoid unnecessary hardship or friction during the quiet hours.
”So far, security operatives have been directed to strictly enforce the curfew and the ban on the use of motor cycles with immediate effect throughout the affected jurisdiction.
“While reassuring law-abiding citizens that security personnel will operate with professionalism.”
