PFIPC office signage remains at federal secretariat amid presidency’s denial

The signage directing visitors to the office of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), also referred to as the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC), remains mounted at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja.

A visit to the Federal Secretariat on Monday showed that the PFIPC signage is still mounted on the floor occupied by the Federal Ministry of Health, directing visitors to the office.

The Federal Secretariat houses the offices of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), making it the administrative hub of the federal civil service.

Despite the absence of a legal framework or a presidential declaration, the PFIPC operated like a government agency, receiving an allocation in the 2026 budget, occupying office space at the Federal Secretariat, and recruiting staff.

    How the Controversy Started

In June, the presidency distanced itself from the PFIPC, insisting that it does not exist under the current administration.

In a statement, Femi Gbajabiamila, chief of staff to President Bola Tinubu, said his office did not appoint an individual named Adeniyi Adeyemi to the organisation.

However, Adeyemi, convener of the disputed PFIPC, challenged Gbajabiamila’s disclaimer and called on the president to establish an independent panel to investigate the controversy.

Adeyemi questioned how the PFIPC allegedly appeared in the 2026 budget if, as the presidency maintains, the body does not exist.

Last Wednesday, the presidency further accused Adeyemi of forging an appointment letter and falsely presenting himself as a presidential appointee.

A review of the 2026 Appropriation Act indicates that the “Presidential Economic Advisory Council/Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council” is expressly listed under the Presidency, with a total budget of N1,302,978,784.

The federal government granted a waiver to the controversial PFIPC to recruit 300 members of staff in August 2025.

The police have filed an eight-count charge against Adeyemi and two others, who are currently at large.
