Nigerians on social media have queried the modalities considered to award Zenith Bank Plc winnner of the ‘Best Bank for Digital Solutions in Nigeria’ at the 2023 Euromoney Awards for Excellence.
The bank in a statement on Wednesday, said that the award underscored it’s pioneering and outstanding achievements in delivering cutting-edge digital financial solutions.
Reacting to the latest achievement the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Plc, Dr Ebenezer Onyeagwu, said, “We are delighted to receive the distinction as the Best Bank for Digital Solutions in Nigeria. This accolade serves as a validation of Zenith Bank’s trailblasing initiatives in integrating advanced technology within Nigeria’s financial services sector. Our commitment to expanding the horizons of digital financial services is unwavering, and we will persist in our efforts to innovate and deliver enhanced value to our customers and stakeholders.”
Nigerians on social media platforms, especially X, formerly Twitter, have disagreed with the position of Euromoney Awards for Excellence, citing numerous instances of downtimes that characterised the bank’s services in 2023.
Reacting to the news, X user Baron Chymaker said, “No way this is possible because Zenith Bank is one of the worst in Nigeria.”
Agreeing with Baron, Captain Tango wrote, “How now? Zenith Bank this year had a very horrible online banking experience. I do large online transactions, and weekends are always frustrating. In my opinion, Access or GTB did better with digital banking. Most I.T guys working for these banks are working remotely from abroad.”

E.A George in his opinion said stated, “Digital solutions my foot. With all the failed transactions. What happened to all these fintech companies with seamless online transaction?

“Useless bank ..money is always hanging ..” APOSTLEKAY stated.
The Young Nation posted, “Fake win, fake and fake all fake. You (Euromoney Award) should know that Zenith Bank charges N3 for every N1,000 transaction, If you withdraw N5m Zenith Bank, they take N15,000 from you, so how can zenith bank win digital solution award, when 80% Nigerians are using Opay and others microfinance apps..”
Euromoney’s Awards for Excellence, established in 1992 recognise excellence in the global banking industry.
This year’s edition received a record number of submissions from banks in the regional and country awards programme that covers more than 50 regional awards and best bank awards in 100 countries.
