Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, jets off for another engagement that focuses on the importance of good governance and leadership for Africa this weekend.

Chronicle NG reports that Vice President Osinbajo will speak at the Ibrahim Governance Weekend (IGW) in Nairobi, according to a statement released this Friday by Laolu Akande, office of the Vice President.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, will be in Nairobi, Kenya, this weekend for the 2023 Mo Ibrahim Governance Weekend, themed “Global Africa.”

The annual event is organised by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, which was founded in 2006 with a critical emphasis on the significance of good governance and leadership for Africa.

The Ibrahim Governance Weekend (IGW) will bring together key voices from throughout Africa and beyond to explore pressing challenges affecting the African continent’s growth.

Vice President Osinbajo has been invited as a guest speaker, along with Kenyan President William Ruto, former President of the African Development Bank, Mr. Donald Kaberuka, and Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, among others.

Prof. Osinbajo will, in particular, attend the IGW Africa Leadership opening ceremony later today and speak at the first session tomorrow. He will speak with other world leaders on “Africa’s Weight in the World: Highlighting the Continent’s Assets and Potentials.”

The 2021 Ibrahim Laureate President, Mahamadou Issoufou, will be honoured in person during the inaugural ceremony, which would be attended by leaders from Africa and throughout the globe.

In addition to attending the IGW, the VP is slated to meet with President Ruto and the British Minister of State for Development and Africa, Rt. Hon. Andrew Mitchell MP.

The Vice President, who is leaving Abuja today, is anticipated to return shortly.
