Osimhen open to lower wages at Man United – Fabrizio Romano

Victor Osimhen is reportedly willing to accept a weekly salary of just under £200,000 to join Manchester United, contrary to claims suggesting he is demanding £300,000 per week.

This clarification was made by well-known transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano.

Amid ongoing speculation that Manchester United’s new part-owners, INEOS, are hesitant to meet the Nigerian striker’s alleged high wage demands, Romano stated in an interview with Givemesport that those figures are exaggerated.

“He just wants his current salary (around €12m net, £10.2m per season) to be respected, nothing different. Same as one year ago,” Romano explained, dismissing the £300,000-per-week claims as “wide of the mark.”

This development could provide a breakthrough for Manchester United as they search for a top-class striker to reinforce their frontline. Osimhen’s revised expectations now fall below the wages of players like Mason Mount, who reportedly earns £250,000 weekly at Old Trafford.

Osimhen is expected to leave Napoli this summer after a highly successful loan spell at Galatasaray, where he recorded 37 goals and eight assists in 41 appearances across all competitions. Despite several clubs showing interest, his next destination remains uncertain.

While Napoli would reportedly prefer to send him to Liverpool as part of a potential swap involving Darwin Núñez, Osimhen is said to favour a move to Juventus, who have intensified efforts to sign him. He is reportedly more attracted to their sporting project than the other options currently available.

The striker recently turned down a lucrative £30 million-a-year offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, as he is determined to continue his career in Europe.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has suggested that this decision signals Osimhen’s desire to play at Old Trafford.

“It looks like he’s turned down Al-Hilal… he must be waiting for Manchester United. I don’t know if Manchester United are going to come. That’s the problem,” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel.

United are actively searching for a natural No. 9 after Rasmus Højlund struggled with inconsistency last season and Joshua Zirkzee was more effective in deeper roles. They now face competition from multiple European clubs for Osimhen’s signature.

Aside from Juventus and Liverpool, Galatasaray are also keen to sign the forward on a permanent basis following his impressive contributions to their Super Lig and Turkish Cup double.

Osimhen’s contract with Napoli expires next summer and includes a €75 million release clause, which reportedly applies only to foreign clubs. Italian sides like Juventus would therefore need to enter direct negotiations with Napoli to secure his services.

Since joining Napoli in 2020, Osimhen has scored 76 goals and provided 18 assists in 133 matches. He helped the club win the Serie A title during the 2022/23 season.
