Osimhen: Chelsea prepare record-breaking £130m bid for attacker

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly is reportedly willing to pay whatever it takes to get Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen and smash the British transfer record.

Osimhen has the attention of several of the world’s top clubs as a result of a fantastic season in front of goal last season. The 24-year-old led Napoli to the Serie A title last season, scoring 26 goals in the 2022–23 season.

In the summer, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich all turned to the striker to enhance their offenses, but Osimhen’s high price tag posed a problem for each of those clubs.

According to reports, a cost of £130 million lies between any interested team and the star striker.

Given their free-spending tendency, the Blues appear to be the most likely to be able to pay that sum. However, given that they had already spent £400 million on new players in the summer, the prospects of them acquiring Osimhen were remote.

They’ve maintained their interest despite his sustained fine form, which has seen him score six goals in ten Serie A games so far, and it appears they’ll press hard to complete the trade.

According to Football Transfers, Chelsea owner Boehly is “prepared to pay whatever it takes” to sign Osimhen.

It’s unclear whether he’ll make the transfer in January, but the article claims the Blues will be “in the market” for a new attacker at that time.

According to the report, the Blues are “hell-bent” on signing him and are even willing to break their transfer record to do so.

Their record and the British record signing are the same: £106.8 million for Enzo Fernandez in January, and if reports about Osimhen’s price tag are correct, Chelsea will have to break that record to get him.

While their stance on FFP is relaxed, the Stamford Bridge outfit will almost certainly have to trade some assets before they can sign Osimhen.
