All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant Opeyemi Bamidele have stepped down for former Ekiti state governor Segun Oni ahead of the APC governorship primary in Ado Ekiti today.

Bamidele is not the only aspirant who has withdrawn from the election and thrown his weight behind Oni.

Other aspirants are Bimbo Daramola, Senator Ayo Arise, Senator Gbenga Aluko, Kola Alabi, Muyiwa Olumilua, Dr Mojisola Yaya-Kolade, Debo Ranti Ajayi and Dr Bayo Orire.

On Thursday, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, an adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on political matters, said he was quitting the Ekiti state governorship race.

Ojudu was one of the 33 aspirants in the aborted All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary on Saturday, May 5.

At a press conference in Ado-Ekiti today, he said he has decided to withdraw from the election because he does not want to be part of a mess, an election that has a predetermined end, skewed to favour just one aspirant.

It has been widely reported that the ruling party APC is favouring a former governor and current minister of Solid Minerals, Kayode Fayemi.

The primaries held on 5 May was disrupted after dozens of aspirants alleged rigging by former governor Kayode Fayemi.

It was not clear if the party had resolved the issues raised by many of the 33 contestants, who accused the Governor Tanko Al-Makura and his committee of attempting to rig the election in Fayemi’s favour.
