The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has unveiled his vision for a “productive and prosperous Nigeria”, promising to tackle abuse in government, promote national unity and invest heavily in human capital if elected president.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Obi said his administration would focus on restoring trust in governance while improving the quality of life for Nigerians through reforms in education, healthcare and industrialisation.
The former Anambra State governor said his campaign was built on a commitment to place Nigeria on the path of unity and national transformation.
According to Obi, he will, in the coming weeks and months, unveil a detailed roadmap outlining practical steps to curb abuse in government, reverse the country’s declining living standards and foster peace, unity and sustainable prosperity.
He explained that his vision is anchored on unity, inclusion, social justice, equity and the freedom of every Nigerian to pursue lawful aspirations.
Obi identified education and healthcare as the foundation of national development, stressing that investment in people remains the most effective path to economic growth.
He pledged to establish a special task force to address Nigeria’s growing out-of-school children crisis while expanding Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to equip young people with practical skills for industrial development.
The NDC candidate also promised to strengthen character and civic education to promote integrity, responsible leadership and shared national values, arguing that these are essential for national cohesion and long-term development.
Obi said he would prioritise innovation, technology and entrepreneurship by creating an environment that supports business growth and job creation. He added that his administration would also improve access to quality healthcare and build a healthier workforce capable of driving national productivity.
