Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, the impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has criticised lawmakers for removing him from office.

Obasa, who spoke for the first time about his removal on Saturday, emphasised the importance of MPs “following constitutional procedure” in removing him as speaker.

The former speaker also denied the claims of corruption made against him by MPs after his removal, describing the alleged financial misappropriations as “impossible.”

“I am not disturbed; I am not afraid,” Obasa said of the “developments that happened at the assembly.”

He spoke to a huge crowd of supporters at the Speaker’s Lodge, 47, GRA Ikeja, Lagos.

The 52-year-old has been speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly since 2015.

Before his impeachment, Obasa faced accusations of corruption and financial mismanagement.

He faced accusations of recklessly allocating N17 billion for an assembly complex gate.
Additionally, Obasa faced accusations of disrespecting Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reportedly questioned him about the alleged infractions.

The impeached speaker was said to be away in Atlanta, USA, at the time of his impeachment.

The deputy speaker, Mojisola Meranda, representing Apapa Constituency 1, was elected as the new Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

In removing the speaker, the 32 members of the state house assembly alleged multiple financial and statutory violations against the former speaker.
