The Natives, a group, claim that Bola Tinubu, the winner of the election, did take a stolen mandate.

Before a march to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) offices on Monday, group leader Smart Edwards told reporters in Abuja that Nigerians must prevent a repetition of the June 12 incident.

On June 12, 1993, Nigerians went to the polls to choose a president. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate and late Moshood Abiola, often known as MKO, was largely believed to have won the highly regarded free and fair election.

Later, Ibrahim Babangida, a former military leader, dissolved the election.

Edwards said that it was incorrect for Labour Party (LP) vice-presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed to claim that the nation lacked a president-elect.

Edwards stated, “We urge everyone to allow peace to rule and be patriotic, whether the young people who are wounded or the APC who are also hurt, or the PDP who are hurt, or the LP, NNPP, and others.

“Please give Nigeria an opportunity to develop. The elections are past, but the case is still in court.

“Democracy is what allowed the APC to elect a Reverend Father in Benue over the incumbent by a wide margin. Democracy was shown when Peter Obi defeated the landlord in an election in the state of Lagos.

“We saw the Labour Party winning an election in the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja. Democracy was shown when a public transporter won an election in Kaduna state. In Adamawa, we saw a woman come close to winning an election before it was ruled inconclusive.

“We think that when Bola Ahmed Tinubu succeeds President Muhammadu Buhari, MKO Abiola’s spirit would finally find peace. I’m also pleading with all Nigerians to give peace a chance in the name of the Almighty God. We cannot keep demonstrating every day in the streets.

“We’ll march to INEC’s main office to let the commission know that no mandate was taken. The election was won by Tinubu and stayed so. Only the tribunal and supreme court have the authority to overturn an INEC ruling.
