The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has denied claims that it sells substandard petrol with a high burn rate.

In a statement issued on Saturday by its spokeswoman, Olufemi Soneye, the NNPCL said it was responding to a viral video stating that its gasoline does not last long in fuel tanks.

According to our correspondent, a video has surfaced online in which a content creator claims to have purchased a liter of Dangote petrol from the MRS filling station in Alapere, Lagos, for N925 and the same liter from NNPC in Ojodu Berger for N945.

According to him, he put the fuel into separate power generators, one of which ran on NNPC fuel for 17 minutes and the other on Dangote petrol for 33 minutes.

However, the NNPCL said the petrol purchased from its filling station was from the Dangote refinery.

“The NNPCL strongly refutes the false and misleading allegations made in a viral video circulating online, which claims that NNPC fuel does not last.

“This assertion is baseless and entirely unfounded, originating from unverified and amateur research that lacks credibility, accuracy, and professional oversight,” the statement said.

The oil firm emphasized that its fuel “is carefully formulated with one of the best compositions, ensuring optimal efficiency, durability, and environmental sustainability for consumers.”

Also, the NNPC stressed that a significant percentage of the Premium Motor Spirit sold at its stations in Lagos was sourced from the Dangote refinery.

“It is important to emphasize that a significant percentage of Premium Motor Spirit sold at NNPC retail stations in Lagos—where this deceptive video was created—is sourced from the Dangote Refinery, a strategic partner in promoting local production and energy security.

“Dangote Refinery adheres to strict industry standards, guaranteeing the quality of petroleum products supplied to our consumers,” the NNPC declared.

It further stated that the “misleading video” is yet another desperate attempt by economic saboteurs to misinform the public and ruin the NNPC’s reputation.

The energy corporation asked the public to dismiss such “fabricated content” and instead rely on verified sources for factual information, stating that it remains committed to ensuring fuel availability, affordability, and quality for all Nigerians while adhering to worldwide industry standards.
