The Federal Government has warned Nigerians against leaving the country without valid travel documents, describing the practice as illegal and dangerous.
In a public alert shared on X on Monday, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) said all international travel must be undertaken with valid passports, visas where necessary, and other approved immigration documents.
DCI AS Akinlabi, Public Relations Officer of the agency, cautioned that attempts to evade official immigration procedures or use unauthorised border routes amount to a violation of Nigerian law.
The immigration agency also expressed concern over the increasing spread of fraudulent migration schemes targeting unsuspecting Nigerians, especially young people, with fake promises of jobs, education opportunities, and improved living conditions abroad.
According to the service, many victims of such schemes end up exposed to forced labour, human trafficking, and other forms of exploitation.
The agency stressed that no legitimate travel process bypasses official immigration procedures or recognised border posts.
It advised Nigerians to verify all travel and recruitment offers through approved government channels and avoid dealing with unregistered agents promoting irregular migration.
The service further urged members of the public to report suspicious migration activities to the nearest Immigration Service office or other relevant security agencies.
