Nigerian and Bayer 04 Leverkusen striker, Victor Boniface, has expressed his delight at playing in his first Champions League match during his team’s 4-0 victory against Feyenoord on Thursday.

In a post on his X handle on Friday, Boniface reflected on his journey, recounting how, as a young footballer, he used to pay N30 to watch Champions League matches and now lives his dream by playing in the same competition.

The Super Eagles striker stated, “I went from paying 30 naira to watch the Champions League back then at 323 Army barracks in Akure to playing my first Champions League game.” Proud of this moment.”

It is worth noting that the German club signed Boniface from Union SG to Bayer Leverkusen in 2023 in a deal worth over €21.7 million.

Chronicle NG reports on how Nigerian football fans react to Boniface’s excitement.

His club, Leverkusen, hailed him, saying, “We are proud of you too, Boni!

Daniel Regha wrote, “Congratulations on your Champions League debut, Boniface; best of luck this season. Meanwhile, thanks to the Nigerian government, watching matches is now more than N500.”
