Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have reportedly quizzed the acting accountant general of Delta State, Vincent Okubor, and his deputy over alleged misappropriation of N1.3 trillion during the tenure of former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
The agency had earlier arrested Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections; immediate past Accountant General Mrs. Joy Enwa, and other government officials over N1.3 trillion.
Chronicle NG learnt that the Port Harcourt office of the anti-graft agency extended invitations to them sometime in March to answer some questions about the money under investigation.
A top government official, who pleaded for anonymity, confirmed that EFCC invited them for questioning to complete the circle of the commission’s investigation on the alleged embezzlement of the humongous amount of money.
Sources said the Delta State officials were asked to give a statement to authenticate their level of involvement, or otherwise, in the use of the funds at the EFCC in Port Harcourt.
When contacted, anti-graft spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, neither confirmed nor denied the incident but said, “Let me find out about it. I will get back to you.”
The EFCC spokesman has not responded to our correspondent’s inquiry as of the time of filing this report.
