In a bid to address persistent traffic violations and congestion in key areas of the city, the Lagos State Taskforce carried out a major enforcement operation in Obalende and Oworonshoki, leading to the impoundment of 56 vehicles and the arrest of seven individuals.

The comprehensive crackdown, led by the Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, is part of an ongoing campaign to restore order on Lagos roads, particularly targeting commercial bus operators who contribute significantly to gridlock in busy areas.

According to Akerele, repeated warnings to these drivers have gone unheeded, prompting more aggressive enforcement.

“The situation has continued to pose significant challenges for commuters and residents alike,” said Akerele. “Today’s enforcement action was aimed at reinforcing our commitment to ensuring compliance with traffic regulations and keeping Lagos roads safe and accessible.”

The operation was not without incident, as one Taskforce officer was injured during an altercation with a commercial bus driver who resisted the seizure of his vehicle. The officer is currently receiving medical care, while the suspect has been taken into custody.

“We will not relent in our efforts to bring sanity to Lagos roads,” Akerele affirmed. “The safety and well-being of road users is our priority, and we will take all necessary measures to ensure compliance with the law.”

The Lagos State Taskforce has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards traffic infractions, stressing that the enforcement exercises will continue across other areas of the metropolis.

The Chairman also emphasized that all drivers, whether private or commercial, must use designated bus stops for dropping off and picking up passengers or face having their vehicles impounded.

“Sanity on our roads is a collective responsibility,” Akerele added. “If you do the right thing, there is a great possibility that vehicles behind will tow that same line.”

The seven individuals arrested during the operation will be charged to court for obstruction of justice, while the Taskforce continues to push for greater discipline and decorum on Lagos roads.

Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, Director of Press and Public Affairs for the Lagos State Taskforce, confirmed that the agency remains committed to reducing traffic violations and improving road safety for all Lagos residents.
