Several residents of the Tyoshin community in Naka, the headquarters of Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State, were feared dead following a late-night attack on Sunday by suspected armed herdsmen.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants stormed the area under the cover of darkness, unleashing terror and leaving a trail of destruction.

Though the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed at the time of filing this report, locals described the incident as both brutal and devastating.

One of the victims identified in the attack was Monday Dooden, a native of the community. His brother, Akawe Francis, expressed his grief on social media, writing:

“Monday Dooden, my brother, we ran away from the village because of Fulani attacks to Naka over 10 years ago, but we didn’t escape. Last night you were killed by the same Fulani.”

Earlier on the same day, a similar attack allegedly carried out by suspected herdsmen was reported in Edikwu Ankpali, located in Apa Local Government Area of the state. Several people were also feared killed in that incident.

The latest wave of violence adds to growing concerns about the persistent insecurity in Benue and other parts of Nigeria’s Middle Belt, where clashes between herdsmen and farming communities continue to escalate.
