The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, stated that 53 suspects had been arrested in connection with the recent wave of deadly attacks in Benue and Plateau states, which claimed dozens of lives and maimed or displaced many others.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Egbetokun called the June 13 slaughter in Benue State’s Yelewata town a “coordinated attack of terror”.

According to Egbetokun, 26 people were arrested for the Yelewata attack, 22 for the Plateau attacks, and five more in Benue for a subsequent incident.

He added that the Yelewata attack killed 47 people and injured 27, and that two general-purpose machine guns and eight AK-47 rifles were found.
