Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has disclosed that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, marking the first time the long-serving Israeli leader has publicly acknowledged battling the disease.
The 76-year-old disclosed this while sharing details from his annual medical examination.
According to a statement released on social media, his medical team discovered a malignant tumor measuring less than one centimeter in his prostate during a follow-up check after surgery for an enlarged prostate in December 2024.
Medical reports released by Netanyahu’s office confirmed that the cancer was detected early and had not spread to other parts of his body.
One of the doctors’ letters defined it as a “very small lesion with no metastases,” implying a high likelihood of effective therapy.
According to an Israeli source knowledgeable about the situation, Netanyahu received the diagnosis several months ago and began targeted radiation therapy. He apparently finished his treatment recently.
Netanyahu said that the procedure was successful and that the tumor had “completely disappeared.”
He also stated that he is currently in good health, defining the illness as a small issue that has been completely resolved.
The prime minister also stated that he delayed releasing his medical report by around two months to prevent the material from being utilized for political purposes, particularly by Iran.
