Mbappe informs PSG he’ll quit at the end of the season

Kylian Mbappe has informed Paris Saint-Germain that he will leave the club after his contract expires at the end of the season.

PSG had been hoping to persuade Mbappe to sign a new term, as club president Nasser Al Khelaifi stated last month, “Look, I am not trying to hide anything. I want Kylian Mbappe to stay at PSG.

“He’s the best player in the world, and the best club for him is PSG. He is central to our project. We have done a lot of things; some have worked more than others. We have made mistakes, and this is normal.”

However, Mbappe has informed PSG that he will leave this summer. The specific circumstances of his departure have yet to be determined, but the Athletic reports that a formal announcement will be made ‘in the next few months’ once everything has been resolved.

The 24-year-old has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid, but according to the source, some ‘influential’ members of Mbappe’s entourage are dissatisfied with the current offer.

La Liga president Javier Tebas recently stated that Madrid have a “55-60 percent” chance of signing Mbappe, addressing Italian media earlier this month: “I said [the chances] were around 50 percent some weeks ago, now it’s even more.

“55-60? Yes, I think so. Every day that passes and Mbappe does not sign the new contract with PSG, the percentage increases. I don’t know the costs of the Mbappe deal, but in any case, Real have an excellent financial situation. They never did crazy things in recent years.”

Premier League sides Liverpool and Arsenal have also been linked with a transfer for Mbappe, who has stated that winning titles will determine his next move. Speaking after PSG won the French Super Cup last month, he stated, “With the agreement I made with the president this summer, whatever my decision, we managed to protect all the parties.

“And to preserve the serenity of the club for the challenges to come, which is the most important. When will I decide? I do not know. In 2022, I waited because I didn’t know until May.

“If I know what I’m going to do, I’m not going to hang around. That does not make any sense. But like I said, the most important thing is to win trophies.”

Mbappe joined PSG from Monaco in 2017 and has helped the club win five Ligue 1 titles and eight other trophies.
