Max Air plane crashed into the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja after a tyre allegedly caught fire on Sunday.

According to Max Air spokesman, there were no injuries since all 144 passengers and six staff members on board were successfully evacuated.

The plane had flown in from Yola, Adamawa State, and was being towed when the event happened.

The airport’s Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) was quickly sent to extinguish the fire.

Dr. Mike Ogirima, former President of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), presented an account of the occurrence, saying the tyre burst shortly after takeoff at Yola Airport.

However, the plane crashed in Abuja, with rescue personnel already on the ground putting out the fire before the passengers exited directly on the runway.

According to the Leadership Report, there has been no official word from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) as of press time.
